Earth's Greatest Enemy

The Susquehanna Group, in partnership with Peace Action and Veterans for Peace of Broome County, showed a recent documentary film "Earth's Greatest Enemy" on March 31. The film was created by Abby Martin as an exposé of the world's biggest—and most unaccountable—polluter: the US military.

The US military is the single largest global polluter and emitter of carbon. It is exempt from international climate agreements and federal pollution safeguards. The film vividly showed the devastation caused by our military actions and heartbreaking impacts to local communities, from Camp Lejeune to Guam. There was much to discuss among the thirty attendees at the halfway point and even though it was a two hour film, everyone stayed to the end. It was a good collaboration between the Sierra Club and the local peace groups as we united in a stand against war and for protection of the planet.
