Tell the Florida Senate — Reject Joshua Kellam’s Reappointment to FWC

ACTION ALERT by Oct 7:
Florida’s wildlife deserves real conservation leadership — not more conflicts of interest.
The Florida Senate Committee on Environment and Natural Resources will soon vote on whether to reappoint real estate and mining executive Joshua Kellam to the powerful Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

The FWC can create and enforce wildlife laws without legislative oversight. Commissioners should be neutral, science-based, and free of conflicts of interest.
Mr. Kellam’s leadership of the “Right to Hunt and Fish” ballot campaign — funded in part by the Fish & Wildlife Foundation he helps run — and his deep ties to development and mining industries show why this reappointment must be stopped.

📣 Please act now:

Send a respectful message to the Senate Committee on Environment & Natural Resources urging them to vote NO on Joshua Kellam’s reappointment.

Dear Chair Rodriguez and Esteemed Members of the Senate Committee on Environment & Natural Resources,

I am a concerned Floridian urging you to reject the reappointment of Mr. Joshua Kellam to the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

This is a high-stakes decision. The FWC wields extraordinary power—rulemaking and enforcement authority without direct legislative oversight. The 7 appointed Commissioners must be impartial, scientifically grounded stewards of wildlife and habitat—not individuals with conflicting business interests.

Mr. Kellam’s recent record raises serious ethical and public-trust concerns:

* While Vice Chair of the Fish & Wildlife Foundation, he led the campaign for Amendment 2 (“Right to Fish & Hunt”), using official FWC resources and $250,000 in Foundation funds to support a politically charged measure.
* His business holdings in real estate, mining, and agriculture create inherent conflicts with the conservation mission.
* His swift reappointment following his prior departure signals the capture of this agency by private interests.

Given the recent scandals, mismanagement, bipartisan calls for reform, and growing public distrust in FWC, now is not the time to deepen conflicts of interest. Floridians deserve Commissioners who act for all communities and ecosystems, not developers or insiders.

Please:

1. Ask rigorous, transparent questions about Mr. Kellam’s conflicts, past use of FWC/Foundation funds, and alignment with conservation missions.
2. Vote NO on Mr. Kellam’s confirmation unless these issues are fully addressed.

Thank you for your service to Florida and for protecting the integrity of wildlife governance in our state.

Sincerely,
