Why food choices matter

Factory farms, also known as concentrated animal feeding operations (or CAFOs, for short) confine 10 billion animals per year to cramped, dirty, and miserable conditions. These operations generate 940 billion pounds of manure annually and are responsible for 10 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. CAFOs also release ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, fine particles, and other air pollutants, and their waste can contaminate rivers and drinking water with nutrients and pathogens, threatening nearby communities’ health.

Sierra Club’s ENFFF! campaign connects those harms to everyday food choices and gives you a concrete way to respond by shifting away from factory-farm products toward plant-forward and local options.

Small ways to push back on Big Ag

ENFFF! offers you simple actions, tips, recipes, and guides for a hopeful, everyday response: choose one or more doable actions, commit to them for one month, and join others working to amplify food choices that strengthen small, local farms, regenerative agriculture, and community-supported agriculture.

Instead of asking you to change everything at once, ENFFF! helps you start with realistic steps you can actually sustain.

Let's tell Big Ag, "Enough is enough! You can’t make us eat your factory farm food."

How ENFFF! works

ENFFF! is built to be simple. Participants choose their action, commit for one month, and use the website’s resources to help them follow through.

Three-step format:

  1. Choose one or more ENFFF! actions that fit your life.
  2. Commit for one month through the Challenge website.
  3. Use guides, ideas, and community support to keep going.
