Baton Rouge Group

Welcome to the Baton Rouge Group of the Sierra Club Delta Chapter!

Wetlands Protection/ Floodplain Management/Wildlife Conservation

We regularly submit comments to the City/Parish Planning Commission and the USACE on applications that would result in the loss of wetlands. In addition, we plan to submit comments urging for more wetland protection in the revisions to the Future BR plan that is up for renewal in 2024. We may have a chance if the route of the proposed Miss. River Bridge goes through an old growth Cypress Forest.

Cancer Alley/Environmental Justice

We support local groups and we submit comments and press releases on permit applications that would increase harmful emissions. We also host meetings on this subject and are active during the legislative session either supporting or opposing bills.

Clean Energy

We monitor state and federal agencies for applications that would increase our dependence on fossil fuels. We vehemently opposed CCS because it's all about enabling industry to produce more emissions, particularly methane, in the process of creating blue hydrogen. Also, we are involved in every legislative session.

Protecting Waters and Rivers

We regularly submit comments to the USACE and DEQ opposing permit applications that would result in the discharge of more pollutants into nearby waters.
