Re: Testimony in Support of LD 1524: An Act To Amend the Maine Exclusion Amount in the Estate Tax
Senator Chipman, Representative Terry, and Members of the Committee on Taxation. My name is Marianne Hill, and I write on behalf of Sierra Club Maine’s over 20,000 members and supporters in support of more tax brackets for higher incomes in Maine’s Income Tax.
The Sierra Club Maine believes in tax fairness. It supports LD 1524, which would return the exclusion from the estate tax to $2 million. The current $5.6 million exclusion is excessive. Maine has many unmet needs due to a lack of funding. The added revenue provided by this legislation would enable greater investment in our municipalities, families, schools, infrastructure and environment.
We urge Ought to Pass for LD 1524.
