Speak up for NC's "Green Roads" plan

Did you know that emissions from transportation are the top contributor to climate change in North Carolina? That means that we cannot truly address the urgent climate crisis without reducing auto emissions.

Now there's a way for YOU to help North Carolina's drive to become the "Green Roads State." North Carolina leaders want your feedback as they draft the state's first clean transportation plan.

Green Roads State campaign logoAt the start of this month, Gov. Roy Cooper kicked off the state's first meeting about the clean transportation plan, which is required by his Executive Order 246. EO 246 set ambitious goals for the state to transition away from gas vehicles to electric and to reduce transportation emissions.

Cooper noted that it will be key to ensure that environmental justice and underserved communities are part of the plan. He also mentioned the need to reduce vehicle miles traveled, improve public transportation, and ensure that electric vehicle charging stations can be found across the state. (If you missed the meeting, you can watch a recording of it.)

Sierra Club is working to ensure that the clean transportation plan is a success. You can, too! We'll keep you posted about additional public meetings. But you can be heard now: Fill out this survey from the N.C. Department of Transportation and let them know what you want to see in the plan.
