As we rally against terrible proposed rules to address toxin in North Carolina waterways, the N.C. Chapter hosted a webinar to give context to the situation and you can help fight back.
Erin Carey, the Chapters Deputy Director, and Brooks Rainey, Senior Attorney and Legislative Council with the Southern Environmental Law Center, walked us through how our state has systematically retreated from meaningful environmental regulation. They explained how the General Assembly has worked to strip the governor of regulatory power and install industry loyalists onto key committees charged with protecting our health and our environment, specifically the Environmental Management Commission (EMC).
The EMC recently proposed rules for 1,4 dioxane and PFAS discharges. This webinar goes over the flaws in the proposed rules and ways the public can push back on this industry-friendly "regulation" during the comment period that ends June 15. Watch it here!
