Oakland, CA.-- In response to Donald Trump’s proposed deep cuts to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) programs that protect children and communities from toxic waste, air and water pollution, and climate change, Climate Parents and Mobilizing Media today released three videos featuring children speaking about the negative impacts. The children in the videos ask Congress to #SavetheEPA from Trump’s cuts. The videos can be see here and here, and here.

“The proposed EPA budget cuts would jeopardize the health of our children, climate, air and water by gutting the EPA’s ability to protect us,” said Lisa Hoyos, Director of Climate Parents. “We hope these videos will motivate people who value the health of our kids and communities to hold their Members of Congress accountable for stopping Trump’s reckless proposed budget cuts.” Climate Parents is circulating a petition to protect kids from Trump’s budget cuts: http://sc.org/SaveEPA4Kids

The Trump EPA cuts would:

  • Cut grants to states by 45 percent. These cuts will cripple states’ ability to implement  programs that protect the health of our families.

  • Cut funding for the Clean Air Act in half, putting children at significantly greater risk of cancer and asthma attacks. Meanwhile, according to the American Lung Association, 125 million Americans already live in counties with unhealthy air quality.

  • Eliminate more than 50 EPA programs, including Energy Star, the Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program which helps protect the development of children, through research on how chemicals affect our bodies.

  • Discontinue funding for the Clean Power Plan, the first ever national plan to reduce carbon pollution and fight climate disruption.

  • Disband the Climate Change Adaptation Program, which helps communities tackle the threats of sea level rise and other consequences of the climate crisis.

Climate Parents is a national program of Sierra Club that mobilizes parents, grandparents and families to take action on climate change and clean energy.
