INDIANAPOLIS -- A new report released today by Environment America ranks Indianapolis 4th in installed solar power per capita and 6th in installed solar capacity in a national ranking of cities. In 2016, Indianapolis ranked 2nd in installed solar power per capita, according to the same rankings.

In response Jodi Perras, manager of Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign in Indiana, released the following statement:

"Indianapolis has fallen from second to fourth in the amount of solar power capacity installed per person. While the rest of the country moves ahead to embrace solar power, Indianapolis Power & Light and other Indiana utilities are lobbying for Senate Bill 309, which would reduce energy choice and control the growth of solar power in Indiana. Indianapolis residents want and deserve better."

Last Week:

In a report released last week by The Solar Foundation, Indiana gained more than 1,000 new jobs in the solar industry in 2016. Indiana is now home to more than 2,700 solar jobs, an increase of 72% from the 1,567 jobs in the 2015 survey. Senate Bill 309 threatens further job growth in this sector.
