SALT LAKE CITY -- The Sierra Club today joined the This Land is Our Land March through Salt Lake City in support of public lands. The huge crowd was a visible demonstration of the powerful connection between booming outdoor recreation and the public lands and clean air that support it.

In response, Marc Thomas, Utah Sierra Club Chapter Chair issued the following statement.

“It’s clear that people love public lands. These are the places where we go to hike, bike or watch wildlife, to be together or be alone, to connect with something bigger than ourselves. And the beauty of these public places in America is only rivaled by the uniqueness of the idea that they are open to us all.

“We cannot continue to enjoy these places if they are fenced off for fracking, cut off by pipelines, or dug up for mines--if the air is unhealthy to breathe. Our health, our future and our economy are all linked to the continued protection of public lands. Sierra Club will continue to work against those who would sell out this natural heritage.”
