Salt Lake City, UT -- Last night, a leaked Department of the Interior report made public by the Washington Post unveiled the appalling truth behind Secretary Zinke’s National Monument recommendations. The document’s vague, yet startling recommendations call for a shrinking and fragmentation of Utah’s Bears Ears and Grand a complete disregard for more than 2.8 million public comments -- 98% urging to maintain the current and future protections.

In response, Sierra Club Utah Chapter Public Lands leader Wayne Hoskisson released the following statement:

“Zinke’s leaked report reveals the largest attack on national monuments in American history. With the recommendation to drastically reduce Utah’s national monuments, Sec. Zinke is further revealing his blatant favoritism for corporations and their buddies in the fossil fuel industry.

“Zinke has broken his vow to recognize Tribal sovereignty and disrespected the communities he has sworn to serve. We will continue to work to defend these places for this and future generations."
