WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Senate Committee on Science, Commerce and Transportation is holding a hearing to examine the nomination of former coal executive Wilbur Ross to be President-elect Donald Trump’s head of the U.S. Department of Commerce.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

"Wilbur Ross’ long record of disregard for the health and safety of workers at his companies clearly shows that he does not have the well being of all Americans as a priority. Ross has laid off hundreds of workers, shipped American jobs overseas, and owned a coal mine so dangerous that it killed a dozen people. We hope Senators put Ross’s indiscretions under a microscope in today’s hearing and recognize that they should oppose Trump’s unfit appointment.”
