Washington, DC -- Last week, Republican Congressman Carlos Curbelo’s Climate Solutions Caucus announced they would admit Congressman Matt Gaetz -- someone who refuses to acknowledge humans’ role in climate change -- into their caucus. Gaetz supported Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement, and made news earlier this year when he proposed legislation to “terminate” the Environmental Protection Agency.

In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:

“The supposed Climate Solutions Caucus is welcome to add any member they’d like -- even climate deniers who propose legislation to terminate the EPA. But, until the silent half of the caucus backs up the name of the caucus with actual votes for clean energy solutions and against the fossil fuel industry, being a member will be nothing more than a line on representatives’ resumes.”
