OAKLAND, Calif. - The Sierra Club’s Ready For 100 campaign announced today that Gabe Gonzalez has been selected to serve as the new national campaign co-leader for 2017-2018. In this volunteer position, Gabe will provide strategic direction for the Ready For 100 campaign, working to advance the campaign’s goals in accelerating a just and equitable transition to 100 percent clean and renewable energy nationwide.

“With a 25-year background in community organizing, I’m excited to lend my experience to the movement for 100 percent clean, renewable energy and environmental justice,” said Gonzalez. We are in a pivotal moment for our planet and our future. We have to think and act differently. A transition to 100 percent clean energy means a safer planet and safer communities, especially for those who threatened more quickly and more deeply by the impacts of pollution.”

Gabe joins the Ready For 100 campaign with nearly three decades of experience organizing at the local, state, and federal level on issues including immigration, fair housing, education, and mass incarceration. Gabe currently consults for advocacy organizations and has served as a Campaign Director with the Center for Community Change in Chicago.

“Gabe has chosen to apply his deep commitment to social justice to the Ready For 100 campaign at a critical time, and we are excited to welcome him to the team. As momentum builds for 100 percent clean energy in cities across the country, we must ensure that these efforts support the leadership of communities who have the most to gain from a fairer, healthier, more affordable energy system,” said Jodie Van Horn, Director of the Sierra Club’s Ready For 100 campaign.

Gabe is a native of Michigan City, Indiana and a graduate of Drew University. He currently lives in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago with his wife and newborn son.
