WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Yesterday, Hagens Berman, a law firm representing Ford owners, filed a lawsuit alleging Ford Motor Co installed software, often referred to as defeat devices, that enabled its F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks to cheat federal emissions tests. In a statement, Ford denied the allegations. Defeat devices allow vehicles to pass emissions control tests while emitting excess emissions when in actual daily use, which can lead to higher levels of pollution in the air we breath. The lawsuit asserts that in the tests,  the F-250 and F-350 vehicles, “emissions are routinely as high as five times the standard.”

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

"If the allegations prove to be true, Ford isn’t the green company it portrays, but rather an automaker that puts its profits above the health of our families and communities. No profit margin is worth poisoning our neighborhoods and families with toxic smog. Ford, like all automakers, should have learned its lesson after Volkswagen, Fiat, Harley-Davidson and several other auto companies have been accused of duping consumers.”
