Washington, DC -- Today, E&E News reported that EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt has repeatedly demanded special treatment with the press and at events. During a tour in which he attempted to sell his attacks on clean air, clean water, public health, and climate safeguards, Pruitt and his team repeatedly demanded that the press be blocked from attending or asking questions or that the public not be permitted to engage. These actions came during the same stretch when Pruitt’s spokesperson threatened to call the police on a reporter for asking questions at an event in a public forum.
In response, Sierra Club Resist Campaign Director Maura Cowley released the following statement:
“Snowflake Scott Pruitt is scared to speak with the press and American public because he knows there’s no defense for his desperate attacks on our health, our climate, and our clean air and water. Pruitt continues to only speak in platitudes that fails to spin his disastrous tenure as EPA Administrator. The people know this, the press knows this, and even Pruitt knows this. There’s no telling the lengths he will go to so he can protect his image as he continues to seek a higher profile and higher office. If Pruitt can’t handle being held accountable to the public and the press then he has no business to serve as EPA Administrator or in any other capacity.”
