WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, at the West Virginia Mining Symposium, S&P Global reported that a Department of Energy official told the crowd that "I'm not a researcher, I'm not a scientist, I'm an advocate for the coal industry."

In response, Mary Anne Hitt, Director of Sierra Club's Beyond Coal campaign, released the following statement:

“We never expected the Trump Administration to come right out and admit that they are simply serving the coal industry, but they did today, and there seems to be no bar that is too low for them to fall under.”
