Washington, DC -- Today, the Washington Post reported that Donald Trump’s nominee for the Council on Environmental Quality, Kathleen Hartnett White, has withdrawn her name for consideration. Hartnett White has faced mounting opposition due to her denial of climate science, plagiarism in her Senate questionnaire, and her record as the head of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:
“Senate Democrats and the American people’s rejection of Kathleen Hartnett White shows once again that we will not allow Donald Trump to put corporate polluters above our health, our safety, and our clean air and water. Her troubling record in Texas alone proved she is unqualified and a threat to our health and safety, her answers before the U.S. Senate demonstrated she is a danger to our democracy, and nearly every single comment she’s ever uttered has been an attack on known science and facts. The Sierra Club applauds Senator Carper's leadership and Senate Democrats for echoing the peoples’ voices in rejecting Hartnett White.”
