LOS ANGELES, C.A. -- Tomorrow, Saturday, April 21, the Watts Clean Energy and Air Committee will host their inaugural Earth Day Celebration at St. John’s United Methodist Church. The centerpiece of the event will be the groundbreaking of the MegaWatts Solar Project, a 6 kilowatt solar installation that is the first phase of a larger project to bring solar power to the community. The panels will be installed by GRID Alternatives on the north structure of the Church and will generate enough electricity to cover 85% of St. John’s average utility bill. The celebration will also feature informational booths, a teach in about home gardening and recycling in Watts, and speeches from leaders in South LA.
