Today, the Washington Post released an analysis of Brett Kavanaugh’s support for the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository. While serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, Kavanaugh wrote the majority opinion directing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to consider the application for project, stating that "the underlying policy debate is not our concern."

In response, Sierra Club Nevada Chapter Director Brian Beffort released the following statement:

"It's clear that sending our nation's toxic nuclear waste to Nevada's Yucca Mountain is a bad idea for Nevada, and a dangerous proposition for the rest of the country. So why is Dean Heller praising Donald Trump's extremist Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who has ruled that the project should move forward? It's clear Brett Kavanaugh will not allow local Nevadans to decide what's best for us, whether it’s on Yucca Mountain, our right to clean our and water, or our healthcare. Any elected official representing Nevadans must stand up for the people and reject Trump's Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh."
