WASHINGTON, D.C. - Acting Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler announced today that he would not revise or repeal the 2015 smog pollution standard that helps protect vulnerable communities with serious health conditions from dirty air, but serious threats to the standard remain.

In response, Mary Anne Hitt, Senior Director of Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal campaign, released the following statement:

“While acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler has decided to not tamper with the 2015 smog pollution standard, troubles are on the horizon for those across the United States who suffer from serious health conditions because of dirty, dangerous air. At a time where science and public health are constantly under attack by the reckless Trump Administration, we remain concerned about the Administration’s longer term plans to develop new, weaker smog standards - a key item on the wish list of fossil fuel executives. We will remain vigilant and ready to protect our clean air protections against this administration and the millionaire polluters who control it.”
