Washington, DC-- Today, the House Natural Resources Committee marked up two important bills for the protection of public lands and conservation.  The committee marked up the Restore Our Parks Act which addresses the nation’s $11.6 billion park maintenance backlog. Both pieces will move to the House floor for a final vote. In addition, the committee marked up legislation that would permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund--  historical conservation legislation that authorizes funds for the protection of lands, water and wildlife across the country.

In response, Sierra Club Lands Protection Program Director Athan Manuel released the following statement:

“The bipartisan effort to move these two bills forward is a promising step in the right direction for our public lands, national parks and their surrounding communities. Passing both of these bills will not only provide for strong economies around our public lands, but also preserve the nation’s great outdoors and neighborhood green spaces for future generations to enjoy.”
