Miami, FL -- Tonight, Sierra Club-endorsed candidate Debbie Mucarsel-Powell won their election to become the next representative for [district]. Sierra Club members and supporters helped get out the vote for Mucarsel-Powell as part of its Victory Corps program, a nationwide coordinated effort that embeds staff on state and federal campaigns around the country.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:
“The Sierra Club is proud to congratulate, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, a true climate champion, on her victory tonight. Mucarsel-Powell’s victory is a reminder that the American people want Congress to act, not merely dish out rhetoric when it comes to climate action. The climate crisis requires action from our leaders and that means rejecting the ploys of corporate polluters and investing in clean energy, not talking a big game while voting to push a dirty fuels agenda by approving the Keystone XL pipeline or increasing LNG exports. Finally, this district will be represented by someone who will vote to protect Florida communities and Florida’s future, and the Sierra Club looks forward to partnering with Debbie Mucarsel-Powell in the months and years to come.”
