BOSTON, MA --  On Saturday, over 50 municipal officials gathered at Framingham State University for the culminating event of a year-long series of Climate Leadership Summits organized by the Massachusetts Sierra Club. Throughout the series, over 120 city and town officials attended these summits to learn more about the Massachusetts renewable energy landscape and hear from experts about local solutions that are already being implemented across the state. Welcoming remarks on Saturday were offered by Massachusetts Senate President Karen Spilka and Massachusetts House Representatives Maria Robinson, Jack Patrick Lewis, and Carmine Gentile.  Attendees participated in discussions around 100% renewable energy, electrifying transportation, building energy efficiency, and more. Supporting advocacy groups included Environment Massachusetts, Massachusetts Climate Action Network, Green Energy Consumers Alliance, Clean Water Action, and the Metropolitan Area Planning Council.

Massachusetts Sierra Club Chapter Director Deb Pasternak issued the following statement:

“Municipal leaders are stepping up their efforts on climate, learning from each other, and building a network while they do it. As federal environmental regulations continue to be threatened or rolled back, we are thrilled to be hosting these Climate Leadership Summits. Local officials are leaving our Summits further educated and empowered to take action in their own communities to protect our air, our water, and our lands from the threats of climate change. Public officials can help give the people what they want: clean energy, climate justice, and a livable planet.”
