WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Yesterday, as reported by E&E, Myron Ebell and 36 anti science groups sent a letter to Donald Trump in support of his  Committee on Climate Security led by notable climate denier, William Happer.

Happer

  • Once said that climate science is akin to the “demonization of poor Jews under Hitler.

  • Is a former chair of the Board of Directors at the Exxon-funded George C. Marshall Institute

  • Was caught in a sting accepting payment of $250/hour, to be funneled through his CO2 Coalition organization to produce a pro-fossil fuel report

  • Was compensated by Peabody Energy Co. with $8,000 donation to CO2 Coalition

  • Has expressed climate change denial a number of times

  • Has said that carbon emissions linked to climate change should be viewed as an asset rather than a pollutant

  • Testified before Congress in December 2015 that the world has too little Carbon Dioxide and is too cold

Ebell

  • Is the Director of Global Warming and International Environmental Policy at the Competitive Enterprise Institute and is a known climate denier.

  • Has spent his career doing the bidding of the big polluters who pay him to deny climate change and attack clean air protections.

  • Was called “one of America's most prominent climate-change skeptics” by the Financial Times

  • Was deemed “enemy #1 to the current climate change community” by Business Insider

In response, Sierra Club Resist campaign Director Maura Cowley released the following statement:

"When a climate denier like Myron Ebell supports a panel on climate change, it is a clear signal that it will be based in fiction. The goal of Trump’s of Committee on Climate Security has nothing to do with national security, it is to continue his rampant climate denial and big polluter bailouts.”
