WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Yesterday, the Trump Administration released an updated 2020 budget proposal after the original proposal received sharp criticism for it’s deep cuts to dedicated programs that protect the Great Lakes and other iconic bodies of water across the country.

In response, Sierra Club Legislative and Political Director of the Michigan Chapter Mike Berkowitz released the following statement:

“Donald Trump has tried to cut funding from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative every year he has been in office, so trusting his words now would be a great mistake. Yesterday’s flip flopping statement was clearly an attempt to get out a political crisis of Trump’s own making. Trump’s complete abandonment of environmental protection and climate action remains one of the greatest threats facing the Great Lakes and the health and well-being of the millions who depend on them for recreation, employment and drinking water.”
