Background:

On November 12th 2019, the Nevada BLM will hold a lease sale for 245,711.85 cres of land in the Ely District. Over 100,000 of those acres are in the East Mormon Mountains and the Tule Desert. The land is North of Mesquite in the water basin where the surface and subterranean water flows through into Lake Mead through the Virgin River, Muddy River and the Meadow Valley Wash. The leasing of these lands for oil and gas development threatens the waters that Southern Nevada communities rely on-- including the city of Mesquite, Henderson, Las Vegas, the Moapa Band of Paiutes and Clark County.
