Nation’s Largest Grassroots Environmental Group Praises Peters’ Leadership in Protecting Michigan’s Environment
LANSING, MI: The Michigan Chapter of the Sierra Club today announced its endorsement of U.S. Senator Gary Peters in the 2020 Senate election in Michigan.
"We are proud to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses U.S. Senator Gary Peters for reelection," said Tim Minotas, Sierra Club Michigan Chapter Legislative and Political Coordinator. “He continues to be a strong leader in protecting Michigan families’ health, air and water, and building a clean energy economy that works for Michiganders."
Given the current administration’s continued threats to our clean air and water and public lands, it is more important than ever to elect environmental champions like Gary Peters. As a member of the bipartisan Great Lakes Task Force, Senator Peters has worked to strengthen protections for the Great Lakes, which support 500,000 jobs in the state, and secure robust funding for preservation and restoration initiatives. Senator Peters has been a strong advocate for full funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and has spoken out against the Trump administration’s repeated proposals to slash Great Lakes funding. He has also been a leader on investing in the development of green technologies and creating the clean energy jobs of the future.

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Senator Peters’ campaign.

"Scores of Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on his behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about his exemplary environmental record.
