Border Wall Budget Should Be Redirected to Public Health Crisis

Washington, DC-- Amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Trump administration continues constructing the border wall in several states-- using billions of dollars taken illegally from the military budget to fund the projects. To date, the Trump administration has used $18.1 billion for wall construction. Last week, the administration announced plans for new walls in all four U.S. border states and work continued at several construction sites.

In response, Dan Millis, Borderlands Program Manager at the Sierra Club’s Grand Canyon Chapter, released the following statement:

“People’s health and safety, especially those most vulnerable, must be the urgent priority for our leaders right now. But the Trump administration continues wasting billions of dollars to build the destructive border wall.

“Border wall funds should be immediately transferred to help address the COVID-19 crisis. Health care workers, hospitals and communities desperately need these national resources.”
