WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, former coal lobbyist and EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler is planning to waive compliance requirements and deadlines for a range of polluting industries, which will cause dangerous increases in water and air pollution for vulnerable communities across the U.S.

In response, Michael Brune, Executive Director of the Sierra Club, released the following statement:

“Donald Trump and Andrew Wheeler are refusing to allow a global pandemic slow their efforts to support polluters. It’s outrageous that when Americans desperately need leadership to combat a public health crisis, the Trump Administration is seeking to exacerbate another one by giving polluters permission to act with impunity. Trump and Wheeler shamelessly continue to demonstrate that whenever presented with a choice -- even in the throes of a pandemic -- they will always side with polluters over the people.”
