WASHINGTON, DC -- Yesterday, after requests from bipartisan groups of senators, the administration’s Treasury Department and the Internal Revenue Service issued a notice extending construction deadlines by one year for renewable energy projects to qualify for tax credits. The move will provide some relief to taxpayers and companies developing renewable energy projects amid industry-wide delays and significant job loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce Released the Following Statement:

“This administrative action demonstrates that it is well past time for Congress to step up and protect clean energy jobs. Mitch McConnell can hurl politically tinged insults around all he likes but the truth is that when even THIS Treasury department is finding small ways to help clean energy companies, Congress and its tax writers are clearly in a position to do vastly more."
