Washington, DC -- Recently, Donald Trump attempted to undermine his own Administration’s long standing plan to open up practically all of America’s waters, including Florida’s coast, to drilling. More than two years ago, Donald Trump’s Interior Department put forth a plan that included opening Florida’s coastline to offshore drilling, endangering coastal communities and their economy. While former Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke had attempted to reverse course on including Florida days after the plan was released, the Trump Administration has maintained its commitment to drill off the state’s coast.

Now, with the election rapidly approaching and his political future in doubt, Trump is appearing to change plans, yet his own Administration is unaware of any proposed changes.

In response, Sierra Club Political Director Ariel Hayes released the following statement:

“Donald Trump is the worst president ever for the climate and environment, and no matter how desperately he tries, he cannot run from his own record. The voters know Trump is only on the side of corporate polluters, as he’s spent his entire time in Washington selling out our health, safety, and clean air and water to pad their pockets. No amount of last second flip flopping will ever change this. Come November 3rd, the voters will finally have their chance to throw Trump, his offshore drilling plan, and his deadly and dangerous record out.”
