Declaración del Sierra Club sobre la Reinserción de EE.UU. en el Acuerdo de París

Washington, DC — El Presidente Joe Biden cumplió con su promesa de iniciar el proceso de reinserción en el Acuerdo de París. 

 

Según las condiciones del acuerdo, Estados Unidos se reincorporará legalmente en 30 días, el 19 de febrero. Casi el 70% de los estadounidenses, incluyendo una mayoría en los 50 estados, apoya la participación en el Acuerdo de París.

 

El Presidente Biden ha reconocido que el cambio climático es “el problema más importante al que se enfrenta la humanidad” y ha seleccionado al ex Secretario de Estado John Kerry, quien firmó el acuerdo originalmente en 2016, como su enviado climático —una señal del compromiso de la nueva administración a restaurar su liderazgo mundial en el combate contra la crisis climática.

 

 

“El Sierra Club aplaude al Presidente Biden por no desperdiciar ni un minuto en cumplir con su promesa de priorizar la acción climática. Tras cuatro años de tiempo perdido y vergüenza nacional, estamos listos para que el Presidente Biden restablezca a Estados Unidos como el líder en el combate contra la crisis climática e impulse el progreso y la ambición más que nunca. El Sierra Club está más que dispuesto a trabajar con aliados y la administración para asegurarnos de que alcancemos, e incluso superemos, las metas climáticas en los próximos cuatro años y más adelante”.

Sierra Club Statement On the United States Rejoining The Paris Climate Agreement

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, President Joe Biden fulfilled his promise to start the process of rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement on day one of his presidency. According to the terms of the agreement, the U.S. will legally re-enter in 30 days, on February 19, 2021. Nearly 70 percent of Americans, including a majority in all 50 states, support the U.S. participating in the Paris Agreement.

President Biden has recognized that climate change is the  “number one issue facing humanity” and has selected former Secretary John Kerry, who originally signed the Agreement in 2016, to serve as his climate envoy — signaling the new Administration’s commitment to restoring the U.S.’s global leadership in addressing the climate crisis. 

In response, Cherelle Blazer, Senior Director of the Sierra Club’s International Climate and Policy Campaign, issued the following statement:

“The Sierra Club applauds President Biden for wasting no time in fulfilling his promise to prioritize climate action. After four years of wasted time and national embarrassment, we are ready for President Biden to reestablish the United States as a leader on addressing the climate crisis and help to drive progress and ambition faster and further than ever before. The Sierra Club is eager to work with allies and the administration to ensure we meet, and exceed, our climate goals over the next four years and beyond.”
