Livermore, Calif. -- Yesterday, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors approved Aramis, a utility-scale solar energy and battery storage facility in North Livermore. This project has earned support from major environmental groups, labor, city leaders across the county, and two local community power providers, East Bay Community Energy and CleanPowerSF, that are moving to achieve 100% clean energy by 2030.

In compliance with Measure D, a measure supported by the Sierra Club in 2000, Aramis will power thousands of homes in the Bay Area with enough local solar and storage to prevent up to 210,137 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions from a conventional gas-fired power plant -- the equivalent of taking 45,399 cars off the road for a year. In addition, Intersect Power has prepared innovative agricultural practices and a local habitat conservation plan that will protect the natural resources we cherish, and move the North Livermore Valley toward sustainable agriculture.

Sierra Club Senior Campaign Representative Luis Amezcua released the following statement:

“We applaud Alameda County for its unanimous approval of Aramis. As one of the largest solar projects in Northern California, Aramis is well-sited and will be critical to aiding the local economy and achieving California’s clean air and energy goals. We look forward to continuing our work with Alameda County and other stakeholders in building local clean energy that is consistent with our support for Measure D and will create good, union jobs.
