New Orleans, LA -- Last week, the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Karen Carter Peterson in the special election for Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District.

"We are pleased to announce that the Sierra Club officially endorses Karen Carter Peterson for Congress," said Dave Stets, Chair of the Sierra Club Delta Chapter. "We are confident that she will work to protect Louisiana’s families’ health, air and water, and build a clean energy economy that works for Louisianans in Congress, just as she has here in the state senate."

“We can’t wait any longer to act on the environmental racism and injustice communities in the 2nd Congressional District are facing – especially those in Cancer Alley. It’s fundamentally wrong that families have to choose between their health and putting food on the table. I will fight to hold toxic polluters accountable, ensure clean air and water for every single family, and build a clean energy economy that puts our communities first,” said Sen. Karen Carter Peterson

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Carter Peterson’s campaign.

"Louisiana has seen firsthand the devastation brought on by the climate crisis, which is exactly why we need to elect Karen Carter Peterson," said Sierra Club PAC Director Matt Gravatt.  "Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on her behalf, touting her exemplary environmental record as to why she’s the best candidate for the job. We look forward to Karen Carter Peterson’s victory and working with her on climate action once she gets to Congress."
