WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sierra Club issued the following statements on the passing of Adam Kolton, executive director of Alaska Wilderness League.

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Adam Kolton. He was a tireless advocate for our environment and poured himself into conserving places we love. His work with the Gwich’in Nation to protect the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge will be an enduring legacy. May we all move forward with the same kindness, humility and dedication Adam brought to the movement. He will be greatly missed,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune.

“Adam's loss will be hard felt across the conservation movement. His passion and energy were infectious and motivated many of us to do our best for Alaska's wild lands and its people,” said Dan Ritzman, director of Sierra Club’s Lands, Water, Wildlife campaign.

“Adam was a great colleague in the fight to protect the coastal plain of the Arctic Refuge and other special places on our planet.  He was also a great friend.  Adam did great work, always optimistic that the value of conservation would be realized.   His memory and legacy will be everlasting,” said Athan Manuel, director of Sierra Club’s Lands Protection program.
