WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Leading national environmental organizations are united to defend democracy and we urge passage of the historic For the People Act, which would protect peoples’ freedom to vote and make our democracy more fair and inclusive.
Our organizations, representing millions of people, have educated our members and supporters about the importance of the For the People Act and how it intersects with our environmental concerns. We have encouraged our supporters to take action, sending nearly 150,000 messages to Congress in the past few months to ensure everyone’s voice is heard in the democratic process. Our organizations also have partnered on two educational events, one promoting voting rights and another addressing the undue influence of money in politics -- two issues addressed directly in the For The People Act.

Our groups are coming together to protect our democracy alongside hundreds of allies, because we can’t make the environmental progress our country needs without a thriving democracy. To ensure that everyone has clean air to breathe, safe water to drink, and are able to take bold action to tackle the climate crisis, we need to make sure every voice is heard from the voting booth to the halls of Congress. The Senate must pass the For the People Act in its entirety today, for our democracy and for our planet.”
