Washington, DC— This week, President Biden declared June National Ocean Month— calling on everyone to take action to protect, conserve, and restore our ocean and coasts. The Biden- Harris administration’s ‘America the Beautiful’ plan released last month includes a framework to conserve at least 30% of U.S. lands, freshwater, and ocean areas by 2030.

In response, Chris Hill, Director of the Sierra Club’s Our Wild America campaign, released the following statement:

“Healthy oceans are core to healthy waters, communities and life-sustaining biodiversity. We applaud the administration for their ongoing efforts to save lands, water and wildlife.

“Protecting 30% of our country’s coastal waters by 2030 will be absolutely critical in preserving a liveable planet for today and future generations.

“We can and must cultivate resilience in the face of the increasing consequences of the climate crisis. We will continue working together to safeguard the lands, air and water on which our communities depend. We all have a role to play in this moment and no time to waste.”
