Sierra Club Statement on Nomination of Saule Omarova as Comptroller of the Currency

Washington, DC -- Today, President Biden announced the nomination of Saule Omarova as Comptroller of the Currency. 

In response, Sierra Club Fossil-Free Finance Campaign Manager Ben Cushing released the following statement: 

“The OCC has a key role to play in safeguarding our economy from climate chaos and putting guardrails on Wall Street’s risky fossil fuel investments. Saule Omarova will bring a critical understanding to OCC of the government’s role in ensuring the stability of our financial system in the face of growing climate risk and investing in a more sustainable and equitable economy.”
