WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, Sierra Club and Data for Progress released the results of a new nationwide survey that finds broad public support for specific climate investments that were unveiled in the new text of the Build Back Better Act released yesterday.

Notably, the survey finds that 71% of likely voters nationwide believe it is important for the Build Back Better Act to deliver on President Biden’s goal of cutting U.S. climate pollution in half by 2030. This includes strong majority agreement among Democrats and independents, and nearly half of Republican voters. The survey, which fielded from October 22 to 25, also found strong bipartisan support for key climate and clean energy proposals that were included in the Build Back Better Act text released yesterday, including investments to boost clean energy manufacturing, make homes more energy efficient, strengthen the electric grid to increase access to clean energy, and boost access to rooftop solar.

Data For Progress and the Sierra Club Released the Following Statements:

"As lawmakers finalize the details of the Build Back Better Act, it is clear that voters widely support investments to tackle climate change and transition to clean energy. With voters overwhelmingly in favor of taking actions to cut greenhouse gas emissions, Congress should feel confident passing the Build Back Better Act to make progress toward President Biden's goal of cutting climate pollution in half by 2030." — Danielle Deiseroth, Senior Climate Analyst, Data for Progress

“Congress is on the cusp of passing transformative and sorely needed climate investments, and this new poll data shows just how strongly the American people support this historic action. A vast majority of voters — including 96% of Democrats, two-thirds of independents, and half of all Republicans — want Congress to seal a deal that fulfills President Biden’s promise to cut climate pollution in half by 2030. A strong majority particularly supports specific new climate investments that congressional leaders are seeking to include in the Build Back Better Act, including investments to retrofit homes and schools to lower energy costs, expand access to rooftop solar panels, increase connections to wind power, cut industrial pollution, and boost manufacturing of clean energy goods. We call on Congress to listen to their constituents in communities across the country and pass the Build Back Better Act in concert with the bipartisan deal in order to support a livable climate, healthy and safe communities, and a more just future.” — Ben Beachy, Director, Living Economy Program, Sierra Club
