Washington, DC -- This morning, Dr. Saule Omarova will face the Senate Banking Committee for a hearing on her nomination to be Comptroller of the Currency.

Earlier this month, more than 60 climate groups, labor unions, and progressive organizations sent a letter to Senator Sherrod Brown, the Chairman of the Committee, in support of Dr. Omarova’s confirmation.

Sierra Club Fossil-Free Finance Campaign Manager Ben Cushing released the following statement:

“The OCC has a key role to play in safeguarding our economy from climate chaos and putting guardrails on Wall Street’s risky fossil fuel investments. Dr. Omarova will bring a critical understanding to OCC of the government’s role in ensuring the stability of our financial system in the face of growing climate risk and investing in a more sustainable and equitable economy.”
