SIERRA CLUB ENDORSES STEVEN HORSFORD

Nation’s Largest Grassroots Environmental Group Praises Work to Protect Nevada’s Environment

[Las Vegas, Nevada]: Today, the Sierra Club announced its endorsement of Steven Horsford for Nevada’s U.S. Congressional District 4 in the 2022 election.

“I am proud to receive the Sierra Club’s support in my race,” said Congressman Horsford. “The path to crushing COVID, economic recovery, more American jobs and better health outcomes is growing our clean energy sector. The Sierra Club has been a steadfast partner in fighting for environmental justice, making sure that our children and future generations can enjoy clean drinking water and breathe clean air. I look forward to working alongside them again this year.”

"We are pleased to announce today that the Sierra Club officially endorses Steven Horsford for re-election," said Tobi Tyler, Toiyabe Chapter Political Committee Chair. "We are confident that he will continue to work to protect Nevada families’ health, air and water, and build a clean energy economy that works for Nevadans."

We are at a critical moment. The pandemic, which further exposed the inequities embedded in our economy, has touched nearly every one of us, and the climate crisis continues to threaten our clean air and water, our public lands, and our collective futures. That’s why it is more important than ever to re-elect champions like Steven Horsford who will prioritize our communities and our future. Rep. Horsford helped champion the Low-Income Housing Renewable Energy Credit Act, which would bring economic and environmental benefits of solar energy to low-income communities. Congressman Horsford also was responsible for protecting the Desert National Wildlife Refuge from military expansion into the refuge with his National Defense Authorization Act Amendment 342, which passed unanimously in the House of Representatives on July 20, 2020.

"We are deeply grateful to Steven Horsford for protecting the Refuge and introducing legislation that would ensure Nevadans have a voice in plans to store nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain", said Nick Christenson.  "He is a true environmental champion who will fight to protect Nevada’s clean air, clean water, our climate and natural treasures such as Red Rock Canyon, Lake Mead National Conservation Area, and Avi Kwa Ame."

Along with the endorsement, the Sierra Club will lend its volunteer strength to Horsford's campaign. "We pledge to do all we can to help ensure Rep. Horsford is re-elected," said Nick Christenson.  "Scores of Sierra Club volunteers will contact voters on his behalf and we will speak to the public as often as possible about his exemplary environmental record. We look forward to a victory for Rep. Horsford on election night and to Horsford continuing his fight for the environment as Nevadan’s U.S. Representative for District 4."
