KINGSTON, Tenn. — On Monday, the Southern Environmental Law Center, on behalf of Appalachian Voices and the Sierra Club, sent a notice of intent to sue to the Tennessee Valley Authority, warning the federal utility that its ongoing construction of a new methane gas plant near the site of its 70-year-old coal plant violates the Clean Air Act.

ATLANTA – The Environmental Protection Agency has proposed cutting the American public out of air pollution permits for “minor sources,” which includes the tractor trailer-sized diesel generators used by data centers for backup power. EPA’s proposal removes any requirement for transparency or public participation for “minor source” pollution sources, including most data centers.

CUMBERLAND CITY, Tenn. — The Southern Environmental Law Center, on behalf of Appalachian Voices, the Center for Biological Diversity, and the Sierra Club, has notified the Tennessee Valley Authority of the groups’ intent to sue the federal utility because the construction and operation of its newly-built Cumberland Gas Plant alongside the nearby coal plant violates the federal Clean Air Act.

ATLANTA - Today, despite the efforts of two commissioners, the Georgia Public Service Commission agreed to allow Georgia Power to continue automatically passing along all of its fuel costs to ratepayers rather than creating an incentive for the utility company to better manage fuel costs.

ATLANTA - Today, the Sierra Club, Natural Resources Defense Council, and the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy submitted their post-hearing brief in Georgia Power’s 2026 Fuel Cost Recovery docket, detailing how the company seeks to escape any responsibility for rising energy costs and avoid making any adaptations to relieve the burden on ratepayers.

ATLANTA - After two days of testimony from experts and advocates, it’s clear the Georgia Public Service Commission must find new ways to protect ratepayers from excessive fuel costs incurred by Georgia Power.

In the hearing, three clean energy organizations urged the Commission to reform the way Georgia Power charges customers for the power plant fuel that forms a large part of customer bills.

NAOMA, W.Va. – Today, a judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia ruled in favor of Coal River Mountain Watch, the West Virginia Highlands Conservancy, Appalachian Voices, and Sierra Club, blocking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ decision to grant a Clean Water Act permit for valley fills associated with the Turkeyfoot Surface Mine.
