LITTLE ROCK -   Donald Trump will sign an executive order today to begin the process of repealing several Obama-era executive actions tackling the climate crisis and protecting clean air and water. Trump’s order includes steps to begin the process of dismantling the Clean Power Plan and attacks on protections to clean air and clean water.

St. Louis, MO -- Today, Sierra Club was granted conditional approval to become a formal party to a Clean Air Act lawsuit against Ameren’s Rush Island coal plant. A 2011 lawsuit led by the U.S. Department of Justice on behalf of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) may be in jeopardy in light of Trump’s election, last week’s appointment of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and this week’s potential appointment of Scott Pruitt as head of the EPA.

The Sierra Club launched an advertising campaign this week questioning Indiana Michigan Power’s request to spend $274 million on the AEP-Rockport coal-burning power plant. I&M’s request is pending before the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) and a public hearing is scheduled in Fort Wayne on Feb. 21.

WASHINGTON DC – The states participating in the 2016-17 Program Review of the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) hosted the first meeting of the year today to determine the future course of carbon pollution reductions in the region. Representatives from the nine participating states, and key stakeholder groups, discussed the latest assumptions for modeling of scenarios for reducing carbon pollution limits 2.5 to 3.5 percent annually from 2020 to 2030, along with other changes to the program’s structure.
