On February 14, Mayor Emanuel released Resilient Chicago, a roadmap for addressing the city’s most pressing challenges through the lens of urban resilience. As one of the 50 actionable initiatives detailed in Resilient Chicago, Mayor Emanuel announced the bold goal of powering the entire city with 100 percent clean, renewable energy by 2035.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA - On January 9, Springfield Township passed a resolution establishing goals of transitioning to 100 percent clean, renewable electricity by 2035, and 100 percent renewable energy for heat and transportation by 2050. The Springfield Township Board of Commissioners approved the full resolution  here.

January 29, 2019

On January 29, Mayor Marty Walsh announced the City of Boston’s next steps for updating Boston’s Climate Action Plan, which include creating “implementation roadmaps” to reach the city’s climate goals. The Climate Action Plan will be informed by the newly released Carbon Free Boston report, produced by Boston University’s Institute for Sustainable Energy, which outlines pathways to achieving 100 percent carbon neutrality by 2050.

On January 18, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser signed the “Clean Energy D.C. Omnibus Act of 2018,” a bold climate bill unanimously passed by the D.C. Council on December 18.

January 17, 2019

On Thursday, January 17, the City Council of Keene, New Hampshire voted to establish a goal of transitioning the city to 100 percent clean and renewable energy. Keene joins the communities of Concord, Cornish, Hanover, and Plainfield to become the fifth city in the state to establish the goal.

January 8, 2019

On Tuesday, January 8, Cottonwood Heights, Utah committed to transition to 100 percent clean, renewable energy. It joins three other cities in Utah -- Salt Lake City, Moab, and Park City -- and Summit County in establishing this goal.

D.C. Council unanimously approves clean energy bill, commits to power the district entirely with renewable electricity by 2032

On December 10, the Evanston City Council unanimously approved its new Climate Action and Resilience Plan, which includes a commitment to achieve 100 percent renewable electricity supply community-wide by 2030, along with other bold goals to act on climate change. It is the first city in Illinois to make this commitment.

Today, Northern Colorado Partners for Clean Energy (NCP4CE) applauds the Platte River Power Authority (PRPA) Board of Directors’ unanimous vote to commit to a goal of a 100 percent non-carbon resource mix by 2030. The board’s vote represents the culmination of years of advocacy for 100 percent clean, renewable electricity from community members living in PRPA’s four owner municipalities of Fort Collins, Longmont, Estes Park and Loveland. The goal was adopted as part of the utility’s Resource Diversification Policy and approved by the PRPA Board of Directors.
