TOPEKA, KS--Yesterday, the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) ruled 3-0 that Evergy must refund the unlawful and discriminatory charges levied against customer-owned solar in its Central and South jurisdictions that the utility collected since April 3rd, 2020.

TOPEKA, KS -- Today, the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) unanimously rejected Evergy’s proposed rate changes for residential solar customers, denying the utility’s attempt to impose a discriminatory charge on customer-owned solar as well as the utility’s proposed alternative plan to impose a $35 minimum bill for all customers (Docket No. 18-WSEE-328-RTS).

LITTLE ROCK, AR -- In a victory for Arkansas clean energy consumers, today the Public Service Commission (PSC) ruled that solar power generated by users and returned to the grid shall be credited by utilities at a fair price that encourages the growth of the solar industry in our state. A 2019 bipartisan solar law required the PSC to determine how to credit residential customers for the value of solar energy generated by home solar systems that flows back to the electric grid.

TOPEKA, KS -- Earlier today, the Kansas Supreme Court ruled that utilities cannot charge customers who generate their own power more than customers who do not. The Court ruled in favor of Earthjustice, the Sierra Club, and Vote Solar, who challenged a 2018 Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) decision approving extra fees (sometimes called “demand charges”) on residential solar customers.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN -- Earlier today, Xcel Energy released its integrated resource plan, or IRP, following a preview in late May. As expected, Xcel included commitments to retire its remaining coal plants a decade earlier than previously stated, and the addition of at least 4,000 MW of solar capacity to Xcel’s system, as well as historic commitments to energy efficiency.

Columbia, S.C. – Last night, after previously unanimously passing both the South Carolina House of Representatives and the state Senate, Gov. Henry McMaster signed into law the Energy Freedom Act, House Bill 3659, also known as “the solar bill.”

After conducting an economic analysis of their last coal plant in Nevada, NV energy found they can save money by replacing the plant with solar generation. However, they have decided to continue operating both units at the expensive, polluting coal plant as a seasonal resource through 2025.
