WASHINGTON D.C. -- Today, Senate Republicans filibustered a procedural vote to open debate on critical voting rights legislation for the fourth time this year. The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA) would restore and expand many of the protections in the 1965 Voting Rights Act. The consequences of delaying or blocking the VRAA have become increasingly evident.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Today, Senate Republicans filibustered a procedural vote on critical voting rights legislation for the third time this year. The Freedom To Vote Act, which is an updated version of the wildly popular For The People Act, is regarded as the most significant anti-corruption and voting rights bill in generations.

WASHINGTON D.C.--  Today, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA) was introduced in the U.S. Senate.  Back in August, the bill was introduced in the House of Representatives by Rep. Terri Sewell and passed by a vote of 219-212. The passing of the VRAA in the House was imperative, as it would complement the Freedom to Vote Act and bolster the bipartisan Voting Rights Act of 1965. It would expand and broaden Section 2, which has been weakened by two Supreme Court decisions.

WASHINGTON D.C.-- Today, the House, led by Representative Sewell and House Leadership, passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA) after it was reintroduced last week. The passing of the VRAA will restore and strengthen the full power of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and will restore and expand Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which was gutted by the Supreme Court for the second time earlier this summer.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act (VRAA), which aims to restore and modernize the full power of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. In the six years since the Supreme Court gutted the original Voting Rights Act, numerous states across the country have enacted restrictive and destructive tactics to purge voters from the rolls and make it more difficult for historically disenfranchised communities -- including African American, Latinx, elderly, and young people -- to cast their votes.
