On Tuesday, May 21, a group of youth environmental advocates and representatives from dozens of green, equity, healthcare and youth organizations will join agency officials from the White House Council on Environmental Quality, U.S. Department of Interior, and U.S. Department of Agriculture to discuss ways to transform youth access to nature.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congress voted to pass the bipartisan House Outdoor Recreation package, Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE) Act. The package, co-sponsored by Reps. Bruce Westerman and Raúl Grijalva, expands or supports efforts to expand outdoor access.

The recently introduced House Outdoor Recreation package, Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE) Act, co-sponsored by Reps. Bruce Westerman and Raúl Grijalva, is a bipartisan win for outdoor access. The House will engage in markups for the bill tomorrow.

The theme for Friday, December 8, at COP28 is “Youth, children, education and skills,” which is also the day the youth climate dialogue will be held. Much of Sierra Club’s work, particularly in the Outdoors for All campaign, is targeted at addressing the role that youth can play when it comes to climate work.

The White House announced today the creation of the American Climate Corps, which will offer young people the training and services needed for careers in the clean energy and climate resilience fields.

Helena, MT - A  judge ruled in favor of Montana youth climate plaintiffs today, declaring the state is violating its own constitution by not protecting the right to a clean environment. Held v. Montana was the first-ever youth climate case to go to trial in the U.S. and now is the first victory, setting a precedent for further lawsuits.

This year, 12 people were celebrated for their leadership and work to get more youths and families in nature, whether it was through starting outdoors clubs in their schools, organizing field trips, or working to enact important legislation.

LANSING, MICHIGAN – Today, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the “Nature Awaits” program, which would grant every Michigan fourth grader a free field trip to a state park. The governor’s recent budget allocated $4 million to the program, an investment that will ensure Michigan’s children can actually take advantage of the program.
