Kansas City, Mo – None of the three largest electric utilities in Missouri and Kansas improved their scores in the Sierra Club’s annual Dirty Truth About Utility Climate Pledges report, which is an apples-to-apples comparison of utility energy plans throughout the country. The report grades 75 utilities across the country on their plans to retire coal plants by 2030, not build new gas plants through 2035, and transition to clean energy through 2035.

The 2025 analysis finds that Dominion’s plans for renewable energy are not only failing to keep pace with national peers— they are abandoning climate and environmental justice commitments.

Orlando, FL – Duke Energy Florida’s lackluster investment in renewable energy and ongoing commitment to burning coal and gas earned the utility an 8% (F) in the fifth installment of the Dirty Truth About Utility Climate Pledges report, released today. Duke Energy Florida’s inaugural score was 1% (F) in 2021 and peaked at 10% (F) in 2023.

TAMPA, Fla. - Tampa Electric Company (TECO) has received its third consecutive “F” grade, according to the Sierra Club’s 2025 Dirty Truth ReportTECO’s failing grade dropped from a six in the 2024 report iteration to a four out of 100. For its part, Tampa-based Seminole Electric Coop scored a zero, the lowest possible score, for the fifth consecutive year.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla - Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) has received its third consecutive “F” grade, according to the Sierra Club’s 2025 Dirty Truth Report. This year, the utility’s grade increased three points from a four, its lowest ever score, in 2024 to a still abysmal seven out of 100.
