Oakland Listening Session for CARB Scoping Plan on Thu. 7/28: Show Up For Climate Action!

By Daniel Barad

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is working on a “Scoping Plan” to set the state on a path to achieving its climate goals. Many of you joined Sierra Club California and our allies last month in calling on CARB to make the Scoping Plan more just and ambitious. Now, you have an opportunity to attend a listening session — in Oakland on July 28, or virtually on August 8 — to make sure your voice is heard!

The Bay Area session is this Thursday in Oakland:

  • Date: July 28, 2022
  • Time: 5:30-8:00 PM
  • Location: Laney College (Park in 7th Street Lot), 900 Fallon St, Oakland, CA 94607

If you can't attend the in-person listening session in Oakland, you can also sign up for the virtual listening session here. This session will take place on August 9, 2022 from 5:30-8:00 PM.

Take the following steps to make your voice heard:
  1. Let CARB know which listening session you are attending here
  2. Let Sierra Club California know you are attending a listening session by filling out this form
  3. Attend one of the listening sessions and use these talking points to inform your comments

The Scoping Plan, set to be adopted by the end of the year, is supposed to chart California’s course to achieve our ambitious climate goals. Yet the Draft Plan is far too weak and Sierra Club joined over 100 groups in a letter asking that the Final Plan be strengthened significantly.

Our demand for greater climate action and more aggressive emission reductions led to board members asking to hear more from the public. CARB has scheduled three in-person listening sessions throughout the state, and one virtual listening session. We need you to show up to ensure that the environment has a voice.

These sessions will inform how CARB proceeds with the state’s climate roadmap. We are counting on you to show up and demand a just and ambitious Scoping Plan! Again, you can use these talking points and feel free to reach out to me at daniel.barad@sierraclub.org if you have any questions at all!
